1947 Buick Street Rod Chopped Top Convertible

Exterior paint finished in Custom Crimson Red & Blue Pearl with ghost flames complemented by a White leather interior & canvas convertible top.

This car has it all. When was the last time you saw a Buick droptop this cool? The builder started with a 70K mile rust free original car that was in surprisingly good shape. The stock frame was cleaned & painted before a '66 Buick Skylark rebuilt subframe was grafted into place. A Buick 350 C.I. V-8 rebuilt using the stock steel crankshaft, 11:1 flattop pistons and a Lunati 270 camshaft. The stock heads were polished to allow a smooth fuel flow from the stock intake & 600 CFM Edelbrock carburetor. Spent gasses exit from the stock exhaust manifolds through 2-1/4" aluminized pipes & turbo mufflers. A generous amount of eye candy under the hood was added complete with a custom engine cover.

The body received a fair amount of custom work also. The trunk & door handles were shaved & smoothed with required remote entry. The hood was peeked & chopped 1-1/2" along with added scoops on each side. Front & rear bumpers were added from a '47 Chrysler. Jaguar headlights & '54 Nash taillights were used. The front gravel pan was raised 4", then the grille was recessed 3" and cut off to accomodate the gravel pan. The original dash & Buick instruments were retained. A Cadillac steering wheel was used, A/C & heat by Hagerty was added, along with a Baupunkt audio system. Polished 15" Weld alloy wheels with BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires.

1959 Rover Series 90 Saloon

Unveiled to great enthusiasm at the 1949 Earls Court Motor Show, the Rover P4 was another brainchild of Spencer and Maurice Wilks. Heavily influenced in stylistic terms by the Raymond Loewy penned Studebaker Champion, its transatlantic lines clothed a highly competent chassis equipped with independent coil and wishbone front suspension and a Panhard rod located leaf-sprung rear axle. The 90 series was introduced in 1954. Powered by an enlarged 2638cc version of the outgoing 75 series OISE straight-six engine allied to a four-speed manual transmission, it was capable of circa 90mph (depending upon the rear axle ratio chosen). The 90 series remained in production until 1959 by which time some 35,891 had been made. Exterior paint finished best described as a Greyish Green color (currently researching correct factory color name) complemented by a matching interior. We understand that it is a very common color to Rover cars from this period. It is equipped with an inline 6 cylinder engine with a single SU carburetor coupled to a 4-speed manual transmission with optional Laycock-de-Normanville overdrive. Rear suicide doors, real wood accents throughout the interior, fold down center armrests, are all nice standard amenities found on premium British cars from the era. A complete factory tool tray hides under the dashboard. It has adjustable armrests on the doors, two glove boxes, along with a swivel out ash tray receiver. The original wool headliner is still in place. It has period correct front & rear lap belts with front seat retractable 3 point shoulder belt. Mechanical condition is outstanding. Odometer reads 62K miles believed to be actual. With the exception of one quality paint re-spray & seat upholstery done to the original pattern, this P4 is 100% original. There is no evidence of rust on body or undercarriage. Panel fit & gaps are exceptional. The engine instantly fires up when you push the button on dashboard. A great sounding exhaust system roars to life. The 4 speed manual transmission shifts effortlessly. Steering & suspension are tight. The glass is all original & in excellent condition. The trunk compartment is all original & shows well. If you’re a British car enthusiast, you will love this car. When was the last time you saw one, let alone this nice & original? He repainted the car once with what I describe as an amateur paint job & body work. A new quality paint job would do the car justice. The interior upholstery has been recovered in vinyl. Driven just 3,300 from new, this must be one of lowest XJ12L Series II Jags in existence. Car was purchased new by a Dr. residing in Boone, N. Carolina & given to his wife for a birthday present. It was owned by them until second owner purchased 30+ years later. We purchased the car from the second owner who had it on an EBay auction a few years back. It has resided in our collector car showroom since. It is 100% original & never has been restored. It is rust free & still has it's original exhaust system. The tires have been replaced with Michelin tires although we still have the original Dunlop tires that came with the car which are now dry rotted. Paint is mostly original with the exception of a few areas that were spotted in on the lower part of doors for unknown reasons. A recent service was performed consisting of complete tune up, fluid & filters changed, & new replacement battery. It runs & drives like the same way as when it came out of the showroom back in 1974.

The Laurentian was the luxury Pontiac built by General Motors of Canada and named after the Laurentian Mountains. GM of Canada built these Pontiacs on a 1957 Chevy frame originally outfitted with a 283 C.I. Chevy engine.
This stunning example has been "Rest-O-Moded" and now sports a 350 C.I. engine bored .30 over with a mild cam upgrade producing over 300 horsepower. The engine is fed by a Demon Carburetor, a high volume mechanical fuel pump, an HEI Distributor and is backed by a 700R4 automatic transmission with a shift kit and a new performance torque converter. The interior has been restored to original with NOS silver thread cloth and vinyl in the original pattern. The barrel speedometer has been rebuilt and a modern radio added in the glove box. The steering column has been updated with a chrome Flaming River tilt unit fitted with the original steering wheel. The rear end is now a GM 10 bolt positraction unit. The brakes have also been upgraded with power discs up front and drums in the rear. Over $3,500 was spent on rechroming the enormous bumpers and trim. The front and side glass has all been replaced with new tinted glass and is flawless. The entire body is steel without any "bondo" or filler and the frame, floor and trunk are all rust free. The suspension is completely new with polygraphite bushings, new tie rod ends and ball joints and 2" lower springs in the front for that "old school" rake look. Classic Cragar 15” SS wheels with BF Goodrich RWL Radial T/A tires complete the look for this great hot rod.

An entertaining new life for an old cotton mill

When deciding on an activity for the entire family, “something for everyone” doesn’t always apply. But a new entertainment complex in the heart of Georgia is working hard to provide just that. Located between Atlanta and Macon in the town of Griffin, Rushton Mill is a new concept in family fun.

At the turn of the century, Rushton Mill operated as an entirely self-sufficient textile mill. Generators produced electricity and water, and, in essence, the mill operated as a small town. Old documents reveal that mill employees first made the bricks, then used them to construct the mill and finally built their own homes nearby.

The employees took great pride in the source of their livelihood, growing corn in the mill yard, and even setting up a baseball field on the front lawn.

In 1908, a devastating tornado came through Griffin and nearly destroyed the mill, causing what some estimated at up to $30,000 in damages. Even without insurance coverage, the workers rebuilt the mill, and it became fully operational once again.

Today, this historic 278,000-square-foot mill sits on 18-plus acres and houses a comprehensive classic car museum and sundry of other amusements. Owner Woody Heath, a Georgia native, has an avid interest in antiques and collectibles, a work history in movie props and an impressive personal collection of antique automobiles. Heath translated his avocations into a remarkable, family-friendly getaway. Heath explains that he wanted to create “a complex that is centrally located … to have parties, buy antiques, see collectible cars and have an afternoon excursion for the whole family—ages 6 to 90,” he says. This exciting destination is currently open by appointment only and admission is free.

Upon entering, it is immediately apparent that Rushton Mill is both educational and entertaining. Looking at relics from the 1800s to the 1950s is like thumbing through the pages of a history book. The “main street” of Rushton Mill is a replica 1950s-era town and serves as the backdrop for the mill’s automobile collection. Car enthusiasts and novices alike enjoy the nostalgic setting as they peruse the vintage collection.

A 200,000 square foot building housing a distinctive car collection, Heath hopes to reach his goal of offering “the ultimate in classic auto and antique dealerships.”

Outside the mill, visitors find themselves transported to the Wild West. An old Western town features the Black Stallion Saloon. Swinging doors lead into a saloon replete with authentic Old West features, as well as pool tables, stage shows, a large stone fireplace and libations of all kinds. The saloon hosts poker tournaments, corporate parties and concerts, and provides a general rip-roarin’ good time.

With great attention to authenticity and detail, Heath has created an attraction that is part local history, part family entertainment and all enjoyment.
